Pentium 4 3.00GHz - Poor 4 years ago.

— Not suited even for modern versions of Ubuntu. It did outperform the Athlon at the time, but only by ramping up the clock speed to housefire levels. Good for retro games. I'll give it credit for that.

AMD
FX-9590 - Average 4 years ago.
Processors

— I hope your VRMs can handle this, since mine sure can't. Had to underclock to 4.2 GHz. I'd only recommend it if you virtually got it for free (like I did from my dad), or if you buy it around $50-100. And if you're wondering, I'm running on a Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 R5.

AMD
R9 390 - Good 4 years ago.
Graphics Cards

— Very respectable GPU today for 1080p. Seems to have aged better than the FX-9590 in my system, that's for sure. Watch out, this consumes a lot of power and produces plenty of heat.

The Best.
