Its not a simple tool to use by a long way but if you need to index lots of documents both quickly and efficiently in Java, you need Lucene. The api is not for small projects, its geared towards handling millions of documents, if you can get away with using SQL then do so, as plumbing this api in will take a fair bit of time if you havent used it before. Pros: Speed, versatility, speed, speed.
