Memory Kits

— This is Gigabyte's first attempt in entering the RAM market, and it enters it with fake colour-changing RAM. With 4 sticks, it allows you to populate all of your memory slots. Did I mention that it has RGB? Instead of 2 sticks of RGB, you get 2 functional sticks of 8GB RGB ram and 2 dummy sticks of RGB ram. Unfortunately, the dummy sticks are not sold independently as of now.

Ryzen 5 2500U - Good 3 years ago.
Processors

— AMD's Ryzen 5 2500U sports 4 cores and 8 threads with Radeon Vega 8 Integrated Graphics. The 4 cores and 8 threads is standard amongst new laptops with processors such as the i5-8250U from the blue team. What stands out is the powerful Vega 8 Graphics. It is about 50-100% better than the the i5-8250U's UHD 620 graphics, meaning it can be used for some light gaming on the go. However, despite the powerful specs on paper, adoption of AMD Ryzen mobile processors has been really slow, with very few models out there. Hopefully, AMD's 7nm mobile APU coming in 2019 will see more widespread adoption.

Intel
Core i5-4210U - Average 3 years ago.
Processors

— The most popular Haswell generation low-powered laptop cpu, the i5-4210U comes with 2 cores, 4 threads at 2.4Ghz all core turbo and 2.7Ghz single core turbo. It is still relatively capable in everyday tasks despite it being 4 years old, however system responsiveness is starting to slow down noticeably for the power user. However, for most users, replace the hard drive with an SSD, and you will be able to get a few more years' use out of your laptop.

AMD
Ryzen TR 2990WX - Average 3 years ago.
Processors

— AMD's new top-of-the-line Ryzen Threadripper is now here, boasting 32 cores at a base clock of 3.0Ghz and a boost of 4.2Ghz. On paper, it seems like a processor with tremendous value for money, with an MSRP of $1799, $200 less than Intel's top-end i9-7980XE, while offering 32 cores compared to the Intel's 18 cores. However, benchmarks show that this processor, despite its monstrous multi-core performance of over 4000 points in UserBenchmark and over 5000cb in Cinebench R15, real-world performance, especially in Windows 10 (due to Window's scheduler) is severely hampered by memory bandwidth limitations due to X399 only supporting Quad-channel ram (compared to EPYC's Octa-channel support). This means that only 2 of the 4 dies (16 cores) are directly connected to the RAM, while the remaining 2 dies have to go through the infinity fabric. Running the 2990WX on Linux improves its performance in some cases, but the memory bandwidth bottleneck is a hardware limitation. As such, in many real-world applications, the 2950X and the i9-7980XE beats the 2990WX, especially in memory intensive workloads and gaming. That being said, users should consider the 2950X, which is half the price of the 2990WX and in many applications outperforms the 2990WX.

— It’s been more than 11 years. This CPU still holds up to mordern Low power laptop 2c/4t CPUs when overclocked. Still has a little lift left in it.

— Isn’t it 4 cores 8 threads? But if it’s 6 cores 6 threads much better
