Four times more pixels than iPad 2
Resolutionary - brilliant in every sense of the word...
Pick up the new iPad and suddenly, it’s clear. You’re actually touching your photos, reading a book, playing the piano. Nothing comes between you and what you love. To make that hands-on experience even better, we made the fundamental elements of iPad better — the display, the camera, the wireless connection. All of which makes the new, third-generation iPad capable of so much more than you ever imagined.
Key Features
The CPU on the first gen is getting a little out of date, fancy sites are a bit slow. The screen on the new Ipad is great and its lighter which makes a difference. Pros: Screen. Cons: Price.
Let's be clear: the new iPad is in a class by itself, just as its predecessor was. As the latest product in a lineage of devices that defined this category, the iPad continues to stand head and shoulders above the competition. With the addition of the Retina display, LTE, more memory, and a more powerful processor, Apple has absolutely held onto the iPad's market position as the dominant player and product to beat.
This is a good improvement over the first gen iPad partly because of the reduced weight but mainly because of the much improved screen. It's probably not worth upgrading for but as a first purchase, this is a brilliant couch surfing device.
The iPad 3 was the first iPad to possess Apple's retina display. The iPad 3 also has the A5X, which is 50% stronger than the A5. It is still slow on iOS 9.3.5/6 though.
